Story

The struggle of the tribal communities was never easy, may it be for their rights or livelihood opportunities. Even after seven decades of independence, a significant portion of tribal groups remain impoverished. Maharashtra has the second-largest tribal population in Central India, with 61.6 percent of the tribal people living in poverty. Because of their poor financial situation, they are unable to obtain an education and continue to live in poverty from generation to generation. Most welfare and development schemes hardly reach even 10 percent of their targets. Studies have indicated that their conditions are steadily becoming worse and women being the most affected. While the males in the family receive education up to a certain degree, the females are more likely to drop out after primary school for a variety of reasons. In terms of higher education, only 10.6 percent of females enroll, with Maharashtra accounting for only 7.3 percent. As a result, indigenous women endure a lack of job possibilities, face economic hardships, and remain dependent on their families.

Y4D aims to support tribal women in Pune district to script their success stories by equipping them with the required skills which will boost them towards self-reliance. This Project project will address aforementioned issue by providing National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) certified employability skills on the basis of the industry demand which will empower the tribal women and make them independent by providing 100% placement opportunities after the completion of training.

Impact/Outcomes:

  • Disrupting Stereotypes: The financially stable and independent women working in the high-demanding industry will no longer be vulnerable to sinking into the unethical pool of early marriages, domestic violence, discrimination, etc.
  • Continued chain of women empowerment: Initiation of a skill development program among the tribal women will embark on a continuous chain of empowerment from one woman to another spreading across the village and uplifting the tribal community.
  • Social Equality: Another key impact of equipping the women with greater skills and knowledge will provide them with a better position in the family and help them attain social equality in society.
