Story

The major population of Nandakumarpur village in forested Sunderbans under Mathurapur II Block of South 24 Parganas depends on cultivation and allied activities either as Cultivator or as Daily Wage Labourer. Due to close proximity of Bay of Bengal high salinity in soil often affects the cultivation here. Most of them work mostly as wage earners, domestic help etc. Many are forced to migrate in metropolitan cities. In search of earning parents children are left alone. It is observed that the children remained deprived of love, care and affection and often gets prey to social evils of being trafficked and exploited.

A few Govt. Schools are available, but due to large amount of students, education remained uncared with low quality.

In such circumstances with intention to provide Quality and Holistic Education with joyful learning Sabuj Sangha established the model school Kishalaya Sishu Siksha Niketan (Upper Primary). It is affiliated by Government of West Bengal, but un-aided. Total 208 children are presently reading from Infant – Class VIII. Students here are taught by 14 teachers (Male 6, Female 8). Teacher- pupil ratio is 1:15. TLMs are used for creating education a joyful experience that is imperative of modern scientific approach of learning. 

Along with the formal curriculum based learning to impart skill and value education Sabuj Sangha intends to create options for the pupils of the Model School in various ways:

-       School Gardening by distributing distinct plots of lands to a pair of students of both gender (male & female);

-       Conservation of Environment;

-       Skill based Learning through Computers, Art & Craft, Fine & Performing art etc. 

Children are the future of the Nation, but without education it is useless. Education is the foundation of a human being. In this school the children will get education from their very childhood also their right will be established.

As outcome; knowledge, skill, capacity and confidence level of the children will be improved as well as the initiative will be effective developing moral character and personality. They will learn not only their lessons but also many other things of the world.

As part of holistic education with the ways we perceive to initiate it is intended that lessons derived through such initiatives would induce the Students to essential values required to be retained for proper growth, e.g. Sharing, Team Sprit, Gender Parity, Value for Labour, Caring, Conservation of Nature, Cherishing etc. It is perceived that the values they learn and culminate during the course of learning would help the student grow as strong and with ethics. 

Technical knowledge of Cultivations, Computers, Fine and Performing Arts would help them grow with Practical Lessons, Developed Skill and Acquired Knowledge and become confident contenders for future battles of life and also able to earn.
