Myna Mahila: Support families struggling to access health facilities and Oxygen during Covid with mobile clinics

India is in a state of medical emergency. At this time, people are avoiding going to hospitals (due to lack of availability of beds, fear of contracting the disease, and forced isolation), and lack medical supplies, advice, and services. Further, while many can be “shelter-at-home”, they need supplies they don’t have access to. Hence, we are developing a mobile clinic, which involves vehicles providing medical supplies including Oxygen Concentrators from location to location while monitoring the health conditions of patients locally.

A moving clinic is really helpful for people in urban slums who are not leaving their houses out of fear and stigma. We can support people struggling to get quick access to health services, information, and response. We also want to help build a more sustainable and resilient infrastructure for quick health responses for the future. Together, we can build out a robust mobile health clinic and operations (starting in Mumbai). This daunting task could normally take years, but given the urgency of the situation we need to move quicker and set up this system in a matter of a couple weeks. 

To begin with, the COVID response will be focused on procuring the medical supplies and delivering it to those without access to such supplies in underserved communities. In the process, the mobile clinic will serve as a major step towards bridging the gap between the demand for and the supply of oxygen cylinders in such communities. Once the prevalence of the virus is reduced within these communities, then the scope of the mobile clinic can be expanded to administer vaccinations as per their availability.
