Nakshatra Sports 25-26 : A Platform for Underprivileged Children to Shine in Sports.

Bhumi is one of India’s largest volunteer-driven organizations, founded in 2006 by a group of four volunteers. At Bhumi, we believe that every child has the potential to showcase their skills and achieve great heights, regardless of their background. Our mission is to drive social change by fostering an environment where young adults and children learn, lead, and thrive.

There’s only one thing that talented young children seek - an earnest opportunity. "Nakshatra" provides a platform for children from shelter homes to ‘Dream,’ exhibit their talents, ‘Discover’ their potential, and ‘Dazzle’ in an atmosphere of healthy competition. This way, we contribute to their holistic development through extra-curricular activities.

Nakshatra is Bhumi’s annual inter-shelter home talent festival designed to unleash the creative potential of children. The festival provides a platform for our children to showcase their extracurricular capabilities and talents in Arts and Sports. Nakshatra first started in the year 2009 in Chennai. Since then, we have conducted Nakshatra Arts and Sports for 2000+ kids annually until 2019.

Our mission with this event is to provide a platform for all underprivileged kids and vulnerable communities to showcase their skills in the field of Arts and Sports. The unprecedented situation of COVID-19 pushed us to innovate, and our volunteer team successfully conducted Nakshatra online.

Last year, we had 1000+ kids from 40+ shelter homes participate in Nakshatra Arts 2024. We are proud to raise funds for NAKSHATRA, a cause that has always been close to our hearts, to enrich the talent of these kids from humble backgrounds. This year, Nakshatra Sports 2025-26 is scheduled for July and will bring together 1,200 children over two days of sporting competitions. The event will feature 15 sports events across Track & Field, Indoor, and Outdoor categories, celebrating the spirit of participation, perseverance, and potential.

Bhumi is proud to be a volunteer-powered organization. From the referees to the event organizers behind Nakshatra Sports, everything is driven by the passion and dedication of our volunteers. While volunteers bring the passion, organizing an event like Nakshatra requires significant resources. From providing essential sports materials to ensuring transportation and meals for the children, every aspect of the event comes with its own costs. Funds are critical to make sure Nakshatra runs smoothly and successfully impacts every child who attends the event. The following is our event budget. The cost per child comes to approximately ₹725. Every bit towards this cause counts!
