Neglected elder meal program

We have 57 neglected elderly persons under our care who are suffering from starvation and ill-health in the project area. The age group of these old people is 65 to 80 years. They used to beg on the streets to feed themselves. Their pathetic condition called out to us to feed them with nutritious meals in order to keep them healthy. Most of them are anaemic because of lack of food and medical care. Most of them do not have a home to go to and instead sleep at neighbor's houses, school verandas, and community halls and at bus stop.

We wish to provide nutritious meals and medical care to these 57 elderly people everyday. We provide vegetarian meals along with eggs to them. The menu usually includes healthy food items such as vegetable curry, rasam, and curd. Such a meal is easy to digest and has helped in improving the health condition of our beneficiaries. We also provide recreation facilities, clothing and blankets to them, and encourage them to share their stories among themselves, so that they feel that they are all a part of one big family.

CHHASE wants to put an end to the issue of starvation among the destitute elderly people in Tiruvallur & Tiruvannamalai districts of Tamil Nadu. In the hamlets surrounding Tirumanikuppam, Thirupandiyur, Vayalur and Susaipuram, 57 older people get timely nutritious food and medical care. Their living conditions has improved and their life span is expected to increase as these 57 old people will be able to eat nutritious food and get medicines on time without depending on others. The perception of the community about caring for the old people will change for better.
