No Girl Should Miss School Because of Her Period

One machine. Three women. Thousands of girls who won't have to hide.

Hi, I'm Anvi.

In many villages of Bundelkhand, a girl's period still means missing school, using old cloth, and staying silent out of shame. Many families simply cannot afford sanitary pads, and in many villages the shops don't even sell them.

I learned that a girl my age, just a few hundred kilometres away, could be sitting at home right now because she has no pad and no one to talk to. I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I decided to do something.

With my parents' support, I am raising ₹10 lakh for Project Sakhi, an initiative by Srijan Ek Soch. The money will set up a sanitary pad manufacturing unit in Rath, District Hamirpur, Uttar Pradesh.

What makes this special

This isn't just about giving away pads. Three local women, called Srijan Sakhis, will be trained to make, pack and sell the pads. They will also go into schools and villages to talk openly about periods. Every pad made will do some good:

• Free pads for girls and women who can't afford them
• Affordable pads sold in local markets, so the unit can keep running on its own
• Awareness sessions in schools and villages to break the silence and the shame around periods
