Nourishing Lives: Ration Support for Families with Deafblind and Multiple Disabilities

Deafblindness is a unique disability that combines varying degrees of both hearing and visual impairment. All individuals who are deafblind experience extreme challenges with communication, mobility, and accessing information; most have additional physical and medical conditions. Persons with deafblindness face neglect and discrimination owing to their inability to communicate and relate to the world. With the right care and support, children and adults with deafblindness can become active members of society.

Sense International India (Sense India) has been a pioneer in supporting individuals with deafblindness and multiple disabilities since its establishment in 1997. Our comprehensive services span early intervention, customized education, vocational training, rehabilitation and mental health interventions.

Many deafblind children belong to families with low-income backgrounds, most of these families are daily wage workers, families run by single parent and with chronic illnesses. Therefore, often the child with disability does not proper food and medicine. The family’s difficulties are exacerbated when caring for a child with special needs.

To address these issues, the proposed project will provide monthly nutrition support to 100 families. Each family will receive essential food items including rice, dal, chapatti, vegetable curry, and other nutritious foods.

This support will be facilitated through partnerships with local supporters and community members, ensuring a sustainable and community-driven approach.
