Story

In bustling Chennai, schools bear witness to unique tales of children. Arjun, a bright star, grapples with self-worth, comparing himself to others. Aleena explores the digital world but lacks online safety knowledge. Kabir's emotional struggles need support as he battles temper issues. Meena, once outgoing, has withdrawn due to a home abuse incident, feeling unworthy and judged. Lastly, another Kabir, exposed to violence, has become a bully, needing support himself.

Does this ring a bell? We hear these stories every day! These stories have become all too common, leaving lasting scars on children.

In India, 55% of children have experienced abuse. Two out of every three children were physically abused, and every second child reported facing emotional abuse.

We at Bhumi aim to change this.

Wellness and Safety Education for Children

Our Wellness and Safety Education program addresses exactly this need. It empowers children to understand their emotions, body image, healthy boundaries, relationships, abusive behaviours and how to be safe. We also challenge societal stereotypes, including gender equality.

The Goal

We're fundraising for this cause, aiming to reach 5-7 classrooms in Chennai, with an average of 60 children each, at a cost of 500 INR per child.

Our goal is 2,10,000 INR, which will fund educational games and resources in the classroom. Join us in breaking the cycle of suffering and ensuring every child's right to a brighter, healthier and safer future. Your contribution, regardless of its size, can make a significant difference. Donate today for their well-being and safety!

Outcomes of the program

  • Children are more self-aware and confident in their own bodies
  • Are able to navigate tough emotions with resilience
  • Are aware of their body and body image, gender concepts, set and respect boundaries, what constitutes violence (physical, sexual or emotional) and how to seek help
  • The facilitator empowers students with accurate information, thereby contributing to the overall wellness and safety of the child
  • Parents listen and act out of care and curiosity for the safety and well-being, keeping the best interest of the child at the centre
