Old Computers, New Futures

If you walk with me through the bylanes of Kanpur, you will see children everywhere some playing with broken toys, some helping their parents at tea stalls, some carrying water, and some just watching the world go by, quietly dreaming.

I have spent time with many of these children through Revamp India Foundation. I have sat with them on classroom floors, shared biscuits with them, listened to their stories, and watched their eyes light up when they learn something new.

What breaks my heart is this these children are brilliant, curious, and full of life, but their world is very small. Their future is often limited to what their parents do today.

One day, a child asked me, Didi, computer pe game nahi… kya main usse kaam bhi kar sakta hoon?

That question stayed with me.

In today’s world, a computer is not a luxury it is a lifeline. In Kanpur’s local market, even small jobs now need basic digital skills billing, data entry, online forms, digital payments, and simple design work. But these children have never had access to a computer.

That is why we want to build a Skill School for underprivileged children in Kanpur, where they won’t just learn computers, but learn how to use them to build a future.

We are not creating a fancy tech lab. We are creating a simple, safe, learning space where children can sit, touch a keyboard for the first time, make mistakes, learn, laugh, and grow.

With ₹5,00,000, we will:

Set up a small computer lab

Hire a teacher who truly cares about these children

Teach them basic computer skills, MS Office, internet safety, and digital tools

Connect them with local shops and small businesses for real work exposure.This is not about making them software engineers.

This is about giving them choices in life.

A child who knows how to use a computer can help their family, find better work, and believe that they deserve more than poverty.
