The floods and incessant rains in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh have torn through lives and landscapes. In Dehradun, Sahastradhara, Maldevta, Mussoorie, Uttarkashi, Manali, places you may know as beautiful tourist spots, homes have been washed away, roads have collapsed, water supply has stopped, electricity lines are down, and entire villages have been cut off.
One of our team members, Rajendra, narrowly escaped when he stepped out of a building and in a few minutes, the building collapsed. Five people from his community are currently missing, and it's hard to get any machinery there for the rescue operations.
This is just one story among hundreds across Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Behind every statistic are families: workers, children, the elderly, even animals - facing the same fear and uncertainty.
For over a decade, Waste Warriors has been working in the Himalayan region, shoulder-to-shoulder with the communities who call these mountains home. Today, the disaster is no longer distant news or a headline; it is happening in the very towns and villages where our 200 team members live and serve. Many team members, their families, and their villages are among those hit hardest. People have lost houses, belongings, and their sense of safety overnight.
The region is prone to disasters — floods, landslides, and cloudbursts. This year has been especially harsh. These are small towns and villages, fragile in the face of nature’s force.
One lesson these repeated disasters have taught us is that waiting until the last minute costs precious time and lives. Instead of scrambling for funds and supplies in a hurry, we need to be proactive, ready to step up with relief the moment it is needed. This fundraiser is our way of building that readiness: to stand with our people, our neighbours, and the wider Himalayan families in crisis. Funds raised will go towards emergency supplies, clean drinking water, food, medicines, and to help affected families rebuild their lives.
The Himalayas give us so much beauty, peace, and escape, and we now need to stand tall with it to help its people.
Emergency supplies range from (but are not limited to): Clothes, Shoes, Toiletries, Medical Supplies, Bags, Mattress, Water Filtering Kits, Roasted Chana,Milk powder, Distribution of Meals, Sanitary kits, Umbrellas, Raincoats, Drinking Water Tanks, Candles, Solar lamps/lights, Mosquito repellent, Batteries.
