Opening A School For Underprivileged Children At A Village On The Verge Of Uttarkashi District Of Uttarakhand

Due to it being a remote village in Uttarkashi district all the development work is much neglected here. There are no facilities for schools, no roads, no electricity, no connectivity, and no other basic infrastructure available here. We need to walk 14- 16 kilometers to reach the school. People of the area are doing got farming to earn a living without an education. Middle school children also have to walk for about 10 kilometers to reach the nearest secondary school. This poses a threat to the younger children and especially girls who are the most vulnerable during the long walks to school.

The basic problem is that the village lacks all the necessities that are required for prospering. It has connectivity problems, lacks electricity, and has several other myriad problems. Quite naturally the domain of education is much neglected here. The future of about 350 children in 4 villages of this region - Datmir, Gangad, Pawani, and Osla is in darkness. To cater to that need and this problem, this venture is basically proposed.

Samoon seeks to bridge the gap created by the marginalization of the Osla village people in the Uttarakashi district. This will be achieved through the construction of Samoon Adarsh Vidhyalaya where 200 pupils shall benefit from it. We have already purchased Land for the school and registration of the Land has been done. We have also got the pproval from the Education Department to run the school from grade 1 to grade 5. The local people have promised to help with the building works on a voluntary basis and have mobilized locally available building materials like quarry stones, river sand, and pit sand. However, a lot more material is required like cement, Iron rod trusses, door and window frames, windowpanes, furniture, etc. The work will start with the construction of 5 classroom blocks, two ablution facilities, and two teachers’ rooms. A later extension with additional classrooms is envisaged to be financed through the funds which we are expecting in the next financial year. 

Hence, from the above-given clarification regarding the need for a school in the remote village of Osla, and the obstacles the villagers of Osla are facing, the ultimate conclusion is that there is an urgent need for a school in this remote area so that the present and the future generations can get educated and be independent in their lives. In this manner, the entire village will get developed through education and awareness.

Though presently, we are working upon the issues of say, individual child and their families by providing them all the requisite, we need to have a broader outlook, and this outlook can only be achieved through education. So, the Samoon Foundation has chosen education to be a path of upliftment of such needy children. It is a relevant fact that the condition of this village is really sympathetic and vulnerable in all aspects. So, only education can be a thorough tool for the advancement of this place.
