“Oxygen4Ever” in collaboration with 'Friends of PadUp'

The second wave of COVID-19 is sweeping through the country and the number of cases in India have increased exponentially leading to tremendous pressure on the healthcare system causing significant mortality. One of the weakest links has been the short supply of oxygen, supplied through tankers, to hospitals and patients. A very small percentage of hospitals in India have their own reliable Oxygen generation. This has caused significant loss of life and hardships for patients, relatives, doctors and hospital staff and management. Many projection models with highly mutating virus show high chances of more future waves. Hence, interventions for augmenting oxygen supply are critical and urgently needed to save lives. It Is important and urgent that hospitals are supported to create captive oxygen generation capacity so that the dependency on external sources is limited. While the immediate demand will need to be filled by fixing the supply chain, the solution proposed will take care of the needs of hospitals 2 months from now and hospitals will be better prepared for the later part of 2nd wave and for 3rd and 4th wave, if any.

While India is Gasping for Breath, citizens and civil society must step in to support hospitals and governments to install oxygen generators of high capacities at various hospitals. Walking the Talk, “Friends of PadUp” have taken the initiative in partnership with E&H Foundation to set up 10 Oxygen Generators of 50 LPM. 

After evaluating various options, we have reached a conclusion to help hospitals with maximum patient load and to make a quick difference to hospitals that already have the infrastructure to provide oxygen to the needy. To begin with, we are proposing to help a renowned hospital in Gurgaon to install an approximate 200 LPM PSA capacity cover to one ICU ward of about 35-50 beds. 200 LPM capacity will be reached by modular approach of putting 4 units of 50 LPM. This will help free up some cylinders, which can be used by other health facilities. Based on its success, the project will be quickly scaled to cover more hospitals in as many regions as possible.

Work has begun on identifying other hospitals and we are in advanced discussions with the Health Ministry, Government of Haryana and other hospitals (government / PHCs / charitable & private) will be identified at the earliest.

Creating sustainable oxygen solutions

Phase - 1: By installing 10 Oxygen Generators with a total capacity of 500 LPM will provide life-saving oxygen support to approximately 4800 patients in a year.

Additional benefit: This Oxygen generation will lead to releasing existing oxygen capacity to support another 60 beds and 2400 patients.
