Pedal for Children

As India battled the onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, children fought yet another battle on a different front. They put up a fight against the “silent pandemic” which struck their lives due to the closure of schools. As many as 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary schools in India were impacted by extended school closures.

School closures threatened to rob children off a childhood of learning, putting them at risk of: Child Labour, Child Trafficking, Child Marriage and Child Exploitation. Education is the single biggest tool which can empower children, give them a meaningful childhood and prepare them for a dignified life when they grow up into adults.

In several parts of India, Save the Children has been working relentlessly to support the education of underprivileged children. Over the last 14 years, lakhs of children have benefitted through their work as they brought them into the fold of education, while reaching over 1.3 lakh children in 2021 alone.

Today, children of India need our support to gain access to education and/or continue with their education.
