Story

Osmanabad district is a part of Aurangabad division of Maharashtra state. The district is a part of the Marathwada region, historically known for its backwardness and low literacy rate. In recent years, the district has levelled up its literacy rate in comparison to the other districts of the region, but it is still far behind the state literacy rate.

Secondary education:

The secondary level of education is more neglected in the district and there are fewer schools than needed. At present, the schools are not over crowded as there is only 62 percent net enrolment in secondary education and 38 percent children have either not enrolled in school or dropped out in the process. The net enrolment falls further at the higher secondary level.

The drop-out rate in Osmanabad District is quite high and gradually increases as increase in levels of education. The possible selection of the Tehsils for intervention of Anando is done on the basis of backwardness of the said tehsil. The two tehsils selected based of these factors are Washi, the most backward tehsil of the district which has no urban areas at all and the population of the tehsil migrate for seasonal work to other parts of Maharashtra, and Kalamb Tehsil which also has a high migration rate to the cities.

Light of life Trust through its holistic development approach, supports and strengthens capacities of its beneficiaries to break out of the vicious generational cycle of poverty that rural India is reeling under. Through its ongoing efforts, the organization is looking at building a generation of youth who are literate, confident and knowledgeable of the world in which they live and who are able to make effective career choices that would lead them to gainful means of livelihood and make them and their families financial independent and stable.

The Anando Module has been designed by a noted educationist, our founder Mrs. Villy Doctor, Head of Department, Psychology, Sophia College, affiliated to the Mumbai University.

Over the last 10 years the model has been tested, suitably modified and experimented with, and has evolved in the current form as a totally robust and replicable model.

The organizational goal is not just literacy but complete all round development of each child through a 3E Approach (Educate, Empower and Equip for employability) leading to our beneficiaries taking life changing decisions by choosing appropriate career paths.

Proposed Target Group:

500 beneficiaries and families to be impacted across 8 centres in Washi and Kalamb Tehsils, selected on the basis of a community needs assessment in the said Tehsils.
