Although the rationale of art education has always been in Indian education policies and aspirations of great Indian philosophers, yet unfortunately arts have always been considered lowest a priority among various stakeholders of the ecosystem, be teachers or parents. Secondly, artists, be it musicians or dancers have limited opportunities to perform or have a sustainable livelihood on the basis of the art form. The issue here is two-fold: artists lack a platform to share their skills, and the appreciation and integration of arts into the education system have been neglected. The Directive 19 to 25 RTE (2009) has a provision to have a separate teacher for teaching arts to classes 6th to 8th. However, in reality, most schools are denied quality access to artists, arts learning or creative spaces as civil society, people like you and me have not stepped forward to help the existing strained system. Our govt. children need access to the arts for holistic development, and our artists need a space to teach and perform.
Project Anjuman collaborates with young artists, and supports them financially, intellectually and with logistics to take their art into government schools. We help provide access to arts in areas where children are denied creatives spaces, thereby creating self-awareness, artistic literacy etc in children.
Through Anjuman, we wish to create exposure to arts in a way that fosters the holistic development of children by boosting creative thinking, self-expression, and developing sensitivity towards their surroundings and culture. The end goal is to provide 21st-century skill training in communication, creativity, critical thinking and collaboration through the medium of art forms.
The program in its first phase of implementation was across 11 schools in the format of ‘meet the artist/ art form concerts’ (Spark) integrated with 2 Immersive (engage) sessions per school, translating to 20+Spark concerts(visual/performing/traditional craft artists) and 20+ engage sessions from Oct 2018-January-2019.For the coming academic year, we are executing the project in 300+ schools, approximately 2 lakh children through a mix of the two types of sessions, spark and immersive.
Impacting over 2 Lakh students and 300+ artists in 300+ Delhi Government Schools
For students, the program promises:
Focus on emotional and psychomotor learning; Consistent engagement with varied art forms; Space to express themselves comfortably and safely; Growth in 21st-century skills of creativity, collaboration, communication and critical thinking
For artists, Anjuman promises:
A regular source of income, A free platform to perform and collaborate, Training in pedagogy and other associated skills
You can be a crusader to change the ecosystem of learning and help enable the flowering of the inner magnificence of every child.
