Many children living in poverty will never transition out of this lifestyle due to a lack of opportunities available to them. Being born into a poor or uneducated family is no reason for a child to not have access to health care, education and proper nutrition; these are basic human rights.

Unfortunately, this is what we see year after year in underprivileged areas of Thane.  

Typically both parents work, so the older children are kept home from school in order to care for the younger ones. In other situations, the older children are taken out of school and put to work, to help provide for their families. This contributes to poor self-confidence, a lack of knowledge in foundational concepts, and malnutrition, which leads to health problems. All of these factors contribute to a high dropout rate in school. And once a child drops out, it’s very difficult to get them back into the system.

So, although the government offers free education, many children are unschooled and illiterate because of their home situations. This results in lifestyles that are detrimental to their holistic development. 

The economic crisis generated by COVID-19 has only worsened these situations.

India today is both competitive and fast-advancing. These children stand little to no chance of breaking out of the poverty cycle they were born into and becoming positive contributors to society; ultimately this limits the overall progression of India.

HLC provides quality Early Childhood Education, Supplementary Education and Care at its Education Center in Thane. We cater to children between the ages of three to twelve and carry out our services in a spacious, well-ventilated area - providing a safe, clean, and healthy atmosphere for children to flourish in.

We teach basic reading, comprehension, expression, and arithmetic to the children. These building blocks will enable the children to progress in school, complete their education successfully, attain higher education and secure profitable employment.

We teach using play methodology, which makes learning fun for the children. Every day we provide hot meals and milk for the students at our Learning Center. We also arrange for medical checkups, take the children on excursions and host annual picnics. House visits are another important part of our program as they give us a better understanding of the children and their lives at home. We provide all these services so children can develop holistically and reach their full potential.

Change their destiny.

Enrolled children will complete their studies, become properly employed and obtain jobs they are passionate about. They will feel like valuable members of society and will want to give back to the communities they are a part of, contributing to the overall development of India.

Reduction in School Dropouts - LC’s teaching pedagogy ensures our students will be strong in their foundational literacy skills. We hope this will develop their love for learning and encourage them to stay in school. 

Increased Health and Sharpness of Students - Environment plays a massive role in the development of a child. Bringing the children out of their environments into a safe, spacious location does wonders for them. Both nutritious meals and engaging activities stimulate their brains, helping unlock their inherent potential. 

Improved Confidence and Manners in Enrolled Children - Our students are taught in an atmosphere of safety, acceptance and care. We impart good values are inspire personal significance within each child we work with. 

Increased Registrations - We re-iterate the importance of education during PTMs and help create awareness for education through our community visits.
