The concern is that children who come from destitute backgrounds and lived on the streets and in slums in their early years have educational needs that are far greater than that of children from middle and upper class backgrounds. The biggest point for concern for us is that these kids lack concentration and focus, but are interested in getting an education. They need extra tutoring and guidance on a daily basis to keep them on track with their homework and lessons.

To meet this need, we employ 18 after-school tutors for the 52 children - 48 of whom live with us at our children's home, and 4 other poor but promising children who get educational support from us. This effort keeps the student:teacher ratio low and gives the children the attention they need to improve their concentration and focus, and to stay up-to-date with their lessons.

All of our children attend school, all of them like school and learning. More importantly, some of our kids are ranked in the top 5 of their classes and get excellent grades. Other results:

- Two of our girls are in a very good private college - one finishing her BComm and she'll go on to get her MComm or MBA, and the other in her first year BSc.

- Thirteen of our kids attend a very good CBSE school and do quite well there.

- One of our girls has been ranked #1 in her class for years.

- So far, all of our kids who have taken the SSLC (10th standard) exam have passed.

Our teachers provide our kids with stability and guidance and more focused attention that the housemothers can give to such a large number of children.
