Project Surbhi is our flagship project to promote gender-based equality and rural empowerment through health, hygiene, nutrition, vocational training and entrepreneurship development.
A thorough baseline survey was conducted to identify the challenges in the dropouts of adolescents from schools and after an in-depth analysis, it was realised that the reasons for such dropouts are not linear. A holistic approach is required to encourage the participation of children and women in the economy of the village. We believe that the root cause of rural upliftment lies in the participation of women in key decision making. Enabling women to step out of the patriarchal umbrella and express themselves. We intend to transform the social canvas by educating the girl child, enabling them to earn their livelihood and become independent individuals.
The idea is to start with females and subsequently reach out to other deprived categories. We aim to make Surbhi an all-inclusive program which promotes community building, skill development and economic sustainability.
At Project Surbhi, we are on a mission to sustainably empower rural adolescent girls, through Health-Hygiene-Nutrition-Self defence training and Skill development in the aftermath of COVID-19. We believe that a comprehensive intervention will propel our girls to realise their potential, thereby transforming the economic paradigm at the grassroot level and achieving girl child empowerment. Our modules are designed by subject matter experts using design thinking and years of experience and on-ground insight.
The batch size is limited to 40 and the duration of the program is 6 months
We will be conducting the following interventions:
For effective implementation of the program, we have partnered with subject matter experts/organisations. Our partners are helping us in shaping up the program in an efficient manner and are part of the delivery mechanism.
We wish to demolish the economic and gender inequality at the grassroots level. We envision a healthy, confident and productive female population at the rural level. We want to inculcate democracy in the decision making process at the household level with the advent of a healthy, confident and economically empowered woman. Each Surbhi Girl will in turn empower at least 4 households.
We have created a brand-Chaukdi to market the products produced by our cluster comprising of Surbhi girls and their female family members. One part of the profit of Chaukdi will go into Surbhi for making it a sustainable social intervention.
