Elderly mental Health

A considerable increase in the population of elderly people (those aged 60 years and above) has been observed worldwide and is attributed to the longevity of life as a result of better living conditions and healthcare services. In India, the elderly population has been increasing since 1961 in absolute numbers as well as proportions. While the general population has grown by 18 per cent in 2001-11 and 12.4 per cent in 2011-21, the elderly population has grown by 36 per cent each in the two decades

SAMVAD in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Social Change (CSSC) intends to undertake an intervention program in the slums of Bandra, Mumbai for improving the mental health situation of the elderly residents therein.
