The "Promotion of Climate-Smart Agricultural Technologies in Ariyalur District, Tamil Nadu to Mitigate Global Warming" is a project aimed at introducing and promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural practices in the Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu. The project focuses on mitigating the impact of global warming through a range of activities:

Key Objectives:

  1. Promotion of Climate-Smart Agriculture: The project aims to promote climate-smart agricultural practices, both traditional and modern, to mitigate global warming and enhance agricultural sustainability.
  2. Empowering Women Farmers: A specific focus of the project is the empowerment of women farmers by providing them with training and resources to adopt these climate-smart practices.

Project Components:

  • Research: Research activities are conducted to optimize water usage and study the effects of organic supplements on crop yields in maize, sugarcane, cotton, and black gram.
  • Demonstrations: Field demonstrations are conducted on various practices, including zero tillage, drip irrigation, cover crops, organic farming, and climate-resilient crop cultivation.
  • Training: Farmers, particularly women, are trained in both traditional and modern agricultural technologies, including precision farming and the use of nano-products.
  • Marketing Support: The project facilitates marketing support through various means, such as forming a Farmer Producer Company and e-marketing for agricultural products.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Around 500 women farmers are expected to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Horizontal spread of these practices is anticipated to reach up to 5% of the total cropped area each year.
  • Expected reductions in water and chemical fertilizer usage, along with increased yields and income for farmers.
  • Emissions reduction, particularly in crops like paddy and sugarcane.
  • A focus on sustainability, with the revival of soil ecosystems, reduced water usage, and lower costs of cultivation.

Overall Impact:

The project has the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of agriculture in the Ariyalur district. By promoting sustainable practices, reducing chemical usage, and empowering women farmers, it contributes to the global effort to mitigate climate change.

The project's sustainability is a crucial aspect, with the goal of having farmers continue these practices beyond the project's duration. Overall, the project aims to create a positive and lasting impact on agriculture and the environment in the region.
