Providing educational support to 250 socio-economically needy students.

We are working with the housemaids and street vendors of Amravati city. We have conducted a survey of around 500 such families. They are from the unorganized sector, having marginal financial means to sustain themselves. Their children mostly study in either government schools or in sub-standard private schools that charge a nominal fee. There is no atmosphere of education in this locality and these children can’t afford tuition classes. The parents are not much educated themselves and are mostly busy with the task of making a living. They can’t give much attention or guidance to their children. All these reasons keep children from being able to explore and develop their own talents. They don’t have any exposure to opportunities.

We have also conducted a survey of single-parent children from these schools and have identified 300 such children studying in and between grades 5 and 10. A lot of these children feel emotionally deprived because of the absence of one parent and are in need of behavioural counselling.

We are going to conduct free coaching classes during vacations for selective 250 children from different schools of Amravati city. We will have these at 5 centres, in 5 different areas of the city, catering to around 50 children at each place. We will select students from standard 8 and 9, most preferably. We will make the children take diagnostic tests, to begin with, and then plan out a syllabus for them based on the results. We will have these classes 6 days a week for 8 weeks, starting after the exams are over. We will arrange for teachers who shall be teaching them English, Maths and Science for 3 hours daily from 8 to 11 am. We will also carry out confidence-building and personality development activities.

We will also work for developing their talents in extracurricular activities such as singing, dancing, sports, arts and crafts, etc. We will also organize follow-up activities, once a month.

We will keep the watch on their progress coordinating with their schools for the whole year.

The academic performance of these 250 children will be better. They will also learn a few basic life skills. Their interest in studies will increase. The burden on their families will be lowered to some extent by the support we shall be providing for the entire year.

The children with special skills will get the opportunities to develop their talents & hence also develop confidence.
