Provision of child friendly, eco sanitation block at Adhi Dravida Primary School, Mettukuppam, Cuddalore District

The Adhi Dravida Primary School, in Mettukuppam, Cuddalore has 138 students and six teachers. The school caters to children aged 5-10 from poorest of the poor families who depend upon seasonal agricultural labour for their livelihood. The school does not have any functional toilets and therefore the children are forced to open defecate. Many children do not have access to toilets at home too and therefore, the need for school toilets is dire.

We wish to construct sanitation blocks for boys and girls with adequate urinals as per WHO/UNICEF standards and one toilet each, with a common wall in between and GI roofing.

• All children have access to clean and safe sanitation 
• 80% of students in the project school have improved good hygiene practices including hand washing and reduced hand contamination.
• At least 15% of children motivate their parents to construct toilets at home.
