Yet today, this is the devastating reality for all 23 districts of the state, officially declared flood-hit as nature’s fury continues to unleash unimaginable hardship.

The numbers, though stark, only tell a fraction of the story. 30 lives have been tragically lost, with districts like Pathankot and Ludhiana bearing the deepest grief. Over 3.5 lakh residents have seen their world submerged. The scale is immense, drawing fearful comparisons to the nightmare floods of 1988, a benchmark of misery that a generation had prayed never to see again.

The swollen Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, fed by relentless rains in the Himalayas, have burst their banks, transforming towns and villages into isolated islands. Families have been forced to flee with only the clothes on their backs, their homes and belongings swallowed by the floodwaters. People have been evacuated to safer ground, with relief camps becoming temporary shelters for the displaced. 

The proud people of Punjab, who have always given so much, now find themselves in desperate need of help.
