Story

The Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting System (RRWHS) is a sustainable water management solution designed to collect, filter, and store rainwater from building rooftops for domestic use and groundwater recharge. The system helps address water scarcity by utilizing rainfall effectively, reducing dependence on external water sources, and improving water availability during dry periods. RRWHS includes rooftop catchment, conveyance pipes, first-flush arrangement, filtration units, and storage or recharge structures

Total Cost: ₹90,000 per RRWHS (Unit cost)

This includes materials, storage structure, piping, filtration, installation, and basic maintenance setup.

Partner Support

Partner support is calculated at ₹2.5 per liter, with the following contribution: ₹37,500 for ₹2.5 Per Liter for 15000 litre storage capacity

Community Support

Community contribution is calculated at ₹3.5 per liter, supporting ownership, sustainability, and local maintenance of the system.

Monthly Support Requirement: ₹ 5,62,500 /- Per month for 15 RRWHS Construction.

Siksha Kumari

Shiksha Kumari, wife of Vijendra Kumar, lives in Doomera village with her two young sons.

Life for Shiksha has never been easy. Her family belongs to one of the poorest households in

the village, struggling every day just to meet their basic needs.

The biggest challenge Shiksha faces is access to drinking water. Her family does not have any

source of water at their home. Every single day, she walks nearly one kilometre to fetch water—

often multiple times. Carrying heavy pots under the scorching sun or during harsh weather has

become a painful routine, leaving her physically exhausted and emotionally drained.

Despite this, Shiksha continues to shoulder all household responsibilities—cooking, cleaning,

caring for her children—without rest or support. Her husband works as a daily wage labourer

in MIA, but his income is irregular and barely enough for survival. Due to alcohol addiction,

he often misbehaves with Shiksha, creating an unsafe and stressful environment at home. In

the midst of poverty, conflict, and responsibility, Shiksha is left with no time to care for her

own health or properly attend to her children’s needs.

Water scarcity has worsened her vulnerability. The long hours spent fetching water reduce the

time she could spend resting, nurturing her children, or engaging in any income-generating

activity. What should be a basic human right has become a daily struggle for survival.

If a Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting System (RRWHS) is constructed at Shiksha Kumari’s

home, it would bring a life-changing transformation. Access to water at her doorstep would:

• Save hours of daily drudgery

• Improve her physical and mental health

• Ensure safe water availability for her children

• Restore dignity, safety, and stability in her life

For Shiksha, RRWHS is not just a structure—it is hope. Hope for a life where she does not

have to walk kilometres for water, where her children grow up healthier, and where she can

finally breathe without constant fear and exhaustion.

With your support, we can turn this hope into reality—one household, one woman, one life at

a time.

Updates
29 Dec, 2025

The funds received are being utilized for the construction of 15 Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting Systems (RRWHS), each with a 15,000-litre storage capacity, across identified community buildings.

Contributions are supporting the procurement of materials (rooftop catchment fittings, conveyance piping, first-flush mechanisms, filtration units, and storage/recharge structures), along with installation and basic maintenance setup for each system.

Once completed, the 15 systems will significantly improve water availability during dry periods and reduce dependence on external water sources across the community.
