Any potential donor or supporter should be able to know sufficient about your non-profit from this section before he or she decides to support you and your cause Rajalakshmi Children Foundation (RCF) has been established by Dr Vijaylakshmi, MD. (Paed), MRCPCH (London) and Dr Shashikant Kulgod MS., FRCS(Ed), FRCS(Glasg). Dr Vijayalakshmi is a pediatrician at the BHS Lake View Hospital, Belagavi. She co-founded the Rajalakshmi Children Foundation and leads the child health care services initiatives of RCF. Dr Shashikant is a surgical gastroenterologist and a Director of the BHS Lakeview Hospital, Belagavi. He has an immense interest in strengthening government schools and promoting health education among children. He founded the Rajalakshmi Children Foundation and has been spearheading its various initiatives. Our Lead Director is Dr Ravindra N. Guravannavar, who holds an M.Tech., and PhD from IIT Bombay. Dr Ravindra, a former faculty member of IIT Hyderabad, is a computer scientist specializing in the areas of large-scale data management and distributed systems and works as an independent consultant in the software industry. He enjoys spreading the joy of Mathematics and Computing among school children. He initiated the Sharada Pratibha Poshan Upakram. Rajalakshmi Children Foundation, established in early 2013, is a non-profit organization working for the health, education, and overall development of underprivileged children. Currently, we are primarily working with government schools, where most of the children come from economically and socially disadvantaged families. Our foundation focuses on the promotion of education and contributes towards the nutrition and health of children through its various projects. These activities are mentioned in the 7th Schedule of the Companies Act, 2013 as those that can be sponsored by the businesses to fulfil their CSR obligations. We are an entity established under Section 8 of the Act, registered under sections 12A and 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. Hence, as mentioned in Rule 4 (1) of the CSR Policy Rules, 2014 which provides the eligible entities, we can act as implementing agencies for undertaking CSR activities.Some of our projects/programmes are:Pratibha Poshak. Many children having the talent, tenacity, and interest necessary to pursue studies in the fields of Mathematics, Science, Engineering or Medicine are deprived of good quality education, guidance, and financial support. The goal of Pratibha Poshak is to identify highly talented students, even from remote rural areas and urban slums, and enable them to obtain high-quality online education by digitally connecting them with mentors and teachers. Students having completed 8th grade (age 14-15) are enrolled in this programme. They remain in the programme until they complete 12th grade and enter university education. Students are selected using the data from National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Examination (NMMS) conducted every year by DSERT, Government of Karnataka. Students having a family income of less than INR 1.5 lacs per year and studying in Government or Government-aided public schools are eligible to write the NMMS Examination. At the next level, we conduct an independent test where we teach them a small new topic and assess their ability to understand and apply the concept to solve non-trivial and practical problems. We also interact with the parents of selected students. Most of these students live in villages, small towns or in urban slums and obtain completely free or very low-cost education in Government or Government-aided, vernacular medium schools. Every student selected for this programme is given a tablet PC (a tab) with Wi-Fi and LTE support by RCF. Students are also given network data packs. A workshop is conducted on using the device effectively for online learning. A local coordinator is assigned to resolve any difficulties they may face. Our mentors include seasoned academicians, entrepreneurs, and industrialists from all over the world who have graciously agreed to guide our children in the local language itself. Currently, 201 students are part of the Pratibha Poshak initiative,Unnath Shiksha Prerana Scholarships: - Many talented students have to discontinue education after X Std. or take up vocational courses due to financial constraints. This scholarship amounts to Rs. 15,000/- to Rs.25,000/- to enable them to get admission to a good Pre-University Science College. So far 18 children have received this scholarship.Salary of Computer Teachers: - We have tied up with Belagavi BEO to provide computer teachers and look after regular maintenance of computer labs set up by the Smart city project. Without a regular teacher, these labs set up with huge costs are lying unused. We incur an expenditure of around 25,000 per month to depute computer instructors to these schools.3P’s: - Most government schools have infrastructure that is poorly maintained. We give a facelift to these schools by Painting the building, Pavers for the entrance lobby and Plants to give a green cover. We have transformed one school totally by providing the 3 Ps.Computer Lab at Centre for Teacher Education, Belagavi: - Every year 100 students graduate as teachers with a BEd degree. Unfortunately, there is no functioning computer Lab at this college and these budding teachers are passing out without computer education in the present-day digital world. They need 40 computers and the approximate cost of setting up this Lab is Rs 16 lakhs. We are in the process of mobilising donations for this cause. Teacher Training: - We are providing soft skills and team building training through a dedicated programme “Prerana”, spread over 6 months and conducted by a team of certified corporate trainers. The cost of training each teacher for the entire 6 months works out to Rs. 5000/- per head.Strengthening infrastructure in government schools: - our various other activities like Health Camps, Infrastructure Development – namely low maintenance toilets, computer labs, science labs, and libraries in Government Schools. RCF Learning Labs: We have set up math/ science and social science labs in 4 schools, Through RCF Science Learning labs, we aim to give students a first-hand experience and offer better opportunities for learning.Nutritious food programme: - Currently we are providing nutritious (protein-rich food) to the children at the Government school at Shivabasavanagar, Belagavi.Donations to Rajalakshmi Children Foundation are exempt from Income Tax u/s 80G. RCF has been awarded the GuideStar India Transparency Key.
