Relocation and Rehabilitation of Khori Village Residents

As per the latest ruling by the Supreme court, residents of Khori village have been ordered to evacuate the encroached forest land. The majority of the residents are from the low-income group who will need to relocate in the next few days and weeks. This will mean added financial pressure to relocate house and livelihoods. While living on encroached land is a deeper issue involving property rights, we are trying to do our bit to help vulnerable families by giving them a one-time Relocation Grant of Rs. 5,000/- (INR Five thousand only). We have identified 35 families so far from our Saarthi and Teach For India Networks who need this support. We are in continuous touch with people on the ground who need immediate support.

A one-time direct bank transfer of Rs 5,000 will help evicted families to pay for Relocation cost and Re-setup their livelihood and life in a nearby community. Relocation and Rehabilitation are not easy. Imagine being asked to vacate your house within a week and to find a new place in a new community. A one-time cash grant might not be a lot but will give families some lifeline and a runway till they get their life back in order.
