Rewarding the Oxygen Heroes

Identifying and supporting undervalued players in the battle against COVID-19.

With constant sirens of the ambulance, plaintive reports and panicked voices. We were at a stage in the country where people weren't just dying of COVID-19 but are losing lives because of an inadequate oxygen supply.

There was one community that worked as hard, to support our healthcare system- the drivers of these Oxygen Tankers.

With Corona positive cases rising at an unprecedented pace, the demand for oxygen has been more than ever before. While companies are ramping up production to make enough Oxygen available, there’s a hidden and unspoken challenge that is hampering oxygen to reach multiple destinations across India. The solution lies in building the efficiency of each driver capable of driving under these conditions - Jehaan Adil Kotwal, CEO, HumSafer Driver Safety Foundation

People were busy scrambling and fighting for oxygen but did anyone pay attention to those who were getting it to them?

The truck drivers of the country worked laboriously and selflessly, ferrying tankers and loading trucks to ensure that no corner of the country runs out of Oxygen. It is these truck drivers who make sure that the Oxygen tankers reach the destination in the shortest time possible.

Unfortunately, nobody stopped to wonder if all is well with the truck drivers who undertake journeys spanning thousands of kilometers, just to ensure that Oxygen reaches the destination and eventually to the patients who were struggling and fiercely fighting a battle against this deadly virus.

It’s time to draw attention to these truck drivers, who were the hidden front line workers, and reward them for the bravery with which they kept the supply running.

So, while the truck drivers risk their lives to make sure that we get the Oxygen supply in the shortest possible time, there is no facility for them. Not even appreciation or a pat on the back. While they work harder than before to keep the pipelines full of Oxygen, the logistical pipeline still remains choked with hardships, for them.

Our reward program aims to reach all 8 MN truck drivers through our three rung program will ensure better circumstances for Truck Drivers.

• A premium for COVID-19 cover insurance for Truck drivers with a base minimum of Rs. 500. This cover will provide medical assistance for them and their families, while ensuring that they're medically covered for Rs. 1,00,000.
• Since they are the undervalued front line workers and are exposed to threat, we believe they need to be vaccinated with haste. We will create mobile vaccination centers to ensure easy registration and vaccination for our on-road heroes.
• Driving under lockdown conditions and states with rising cases is a known threat to them. This is discouraging a lot of our drivers. We will creating an incentive program through the HumSafer Driver Safety App where they get more money and due credit per kilometer that they drive.
