#Rise4Odisha

Odisha has been recently devastated due to Cyclone Fani. Puri is in one of the most impacted region.Raghurajpur, a Puri District village, 10 kms from Puri and 55 kms from the state capital Bhubaneshwar. A heritage crafts village is home to 200 families living in 140 homes which are badly affected. Almost everyone in this village is an artisan. They are Pattachitra painters, an art form which dates back to 5 BC. They also make traditional masks, stone idols, paper mache, sculptures, wooden toys. Some of these artists have also won National Awards for their exceptional work.

Current assessment of damage is presented below:

• 142 Homes damaged (kuchcha and semi pucca)
• 143 Water resources damaged
• 9 community infrastructure partially damaged (schools, community halls etc)
• 173 people partially/fully impacted on livelihood practice
• 18 family livelihoods dependent on agriculture disturbed due to destruction

Prabhaav Foundation (www.prabhaavfoundation.org) along with #Rise4Odisha committee members and The Kala Chaupal Trust (www.kalachaupal.org) is enabling the Humanitarian Aid International (HAI) (www.humanitarianaidinternational.org) are working towards post disaster interventions including post disaster reconstruction.

The total cost estimated for the project is INR 1 crore. However, through crowdfunding we aim to fundraise INR 250000 to cover Raghurajpur village to -

Through this fundraiser and other funding sources we aim to rebuild the artist homes and allow them to resume their practice for livelihood. We will work towards -

• Vocational activities of families rehabilitated to the pre-disaster status
• Pre-disaster normalcy restored through rehabilitation of houses and other infrastructures
• Provide tool kits to artists and artisans as per vocational needs
• Install water treatment units in public buildings

It is important that all of us as part of a community come together and contribute to their relief and rehabilitation to protect their intangible heritage.
