ROAR TRIP 2019 - An Awareness Drive for Tiger Conservation

An apex predator and the largest in the cat family, the majestic tiger lives as an endangered species today, losing both habitat and prey to a rapidly developing world. With less than 4,000 of these majestic creatures in the wild and perhaps fewer than 2,200 in India, it is our time to act. Of the original nine subspecies three have become extinct in the last 80 years; an average of one species of Tigers, every 20 years. The six remaining subspecies of tigers today roam in their fragmented habitats, victim to human-animal conflicts and poaching.

The time to act in their defense is now more important than ever before. For without wilderness, the wild tiger will not survive.

Supporting organizations in combating poaching and the fighting escalating illegal trade of tiger parts, enabling conservationists and supporting research projects can help impacting the future of the mighty Tiger.

Wild Tiger Foundation, a registered non-profit organization headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu – is spearheading an awareness and fundraising drive - RoarTrip to aid conservation efforts across southern India.

The RoarTrip takes Tiger Conservation to the world on a 25,000 kilometer odyssey, creating conversations, meeting policy makers, raising funds and driving efforts towards protecting this endangered species.

Under the conservation guidance of WildLife Protection Society of India, funds raised by the Wild Tiger Foundation’s ROARTRIP will enable organizations working towards reversing the decline of the species, protecting rapidly shrinking habitats and driving widespread awareness across local and international communities and law makers.

Funds will help support, cutting edge wildlife research, context-specific conservation models, local interventions to support:-

Reducing human-animal conflicts

Educating forest dwellers and people who live in forest fringes and mitigating and reducing conflict. Forest guards must be equipped with monitoring techniques which will help improve conservation practices and communities living on the fringes of the forest need to be educated about the risks of living in tiger territory and how to co-exist with the tiger.

Anti-poaching rules

Tiger products are still used in many countries and there is a continuous demand for them. Assisting the authorities to curb poaching and to enforce the law against trade in Tiger products at all times through widespread awareness and action can tip the balance in the favor of the Tiger.

Protecting tiger habitat

Protecting tiger territories against rapid development is crucial to their continued survival. India has 50 Tiger Reserves that safeguard critical tiger habitats and although the tiger population has seen a small rise, it still is critical and needs our help.

Stop the demand in Tiger parts.

Maintaining and enforcing laws banning trade is crucial to stopping trade in Tiger parts. Urging the international community to end all trade in Tiger parts from any source and encourage consumers of tiger products to stop the unsustainable use of these products.

Wild Tiger Foundation’s efforts have been focused on habitats within the state of Kerala, Karnataka and TN specifically Parambikulam Tiger Reserve in Kerala and Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu and now it takes its message to the world with #ROARTRIP.

A campaign to drive awareness and action across borders, the RoarTrips aims not just to raise funds to propel efforts in Tiger conservation but also to drive action through policy and local community action.

Funds raised through this endeavor will be guided by WPSI towards efforts in tiger conservation, research and equipping the unsung heroes: the anti-poaching watchers and forest guards of the Sathyamangalam and Parambikulam forest reserves in Kerala and south India.
