Due to Covid Roti & Rojgar ( Food and Livelihood) of marginalized community is impacted very badly. The source of income has become very irregular & their income barely meets their basic needs as majority are laborers/unskilled workers. The idea of Developing Small entrepreneurs as a doable option as livelihood creation to help with family income. This project aims to positively impact lives of families in the Kolkata area by providing them with Small business fund or Capital to start community businesses. Literacy India`s project Karigari has helped over 300 community members to become entrepreneurs in the last one year with the help of various donors. Pandemic time has created the urgency for many more specially who have lost their jobs in factories, hotels or in the market. It was found that self-businesses like vegetable thela, snack shop, masala vendor, boutiques and small stitching units continued to do business despite the situation.
COLLABORATION between Literacy India and Women Leaders Network (WLN)
Literacy India & WLN are collaborating together for this fundraiser.
Women Leaders Network, WLN, is a network of women achievers and leaders with 10 plus years of work experience in organizations like Dell, HDFC Bank, Boeing, Amazon, Pepsico, Java Capital, Kadam India, 9.9 Media, Vedica Scholars Programme for Women, Tata Sky, Social Venture Partners, and many more. They have gained education from diverse institutes like Wharton, ISB, IIMs, Yale, IITs, NITs, Cambridge University, TISS, Delhi University, Jadavpur University, Uttar Pradesh Technical University,etc.
One of the stated objectives of Women Leaders Network is to help grass-root social impact organizations like Literacy India, working for women empowerment causes. The members of WLN help them in their fundraising efforts and also volunteer their time to help them as per the needs of the organizations in marketing, operations, finance and human capital development . The goal is to amplify and scale the commendable work being done by the social impact organizations. Women achievers and leaders lending a supporting hand to underprivileged women will lead to a more equitable society.

Literacy India will start selection, training , formation and active involvement of Women group as per community need business intervention. Post FGD, each women will be assigned task to submit idea then with our intervention it will be started.
The support will help them to start their own business, conduct financial literacy, enterprise management workshops and help them finding livelihood in their own community.
The project will provide training, create awareness among women entrepreneurs about the employment market situation and entrepreneurship opportunities. Literacy India wants to help them sustain specially during this pandemic times. It will motivate the job seekers to take-up self-employment ventures. The project will also assist them to obtain the necessary inputs required for setting self-employment ventures from different sources and help them with settlement. The project Roti & Rojgar will help spur the growth of social enterprises and thus create more jobs and offer more livelihood opportunities to help enhance income of households.
