Sabar Girls' Hostel for the De-notified, ignorant, stigmatized as "born criminal" and 1st Generation Learners of the Sabar Community

Kheria Sabar community is a neglected tribe dwelling in the remote forested region in the Purulia district of West Bengal. The Sabar Community, like many other tribal communities, faces numerous challenges in accessing quality education due to the lack of infrastructure and resources in remote areas. These children are the 1st generation learners. The Sabar hamlets are usually far off from nearby villages as well as schools. The kids have to walk miles to get to the school in most cases. Alcoholism and illiteracy of the elders have a negative impact. The parents hardly have any motivation to encourage education to the children. Seasonal migration of the parents due to poverty becomes a hindrance in the education of their children. The parents are totally illiterate and all these children are 1st generation learners. This Hostel facility would provide these 75 Sabar girls with a safe and supportive environment where they can focus on their studies and pursue their aspirations. PBKSKS has been trying to promote Sabar Education since the establishment of the organization in 1968.

We must educate a considerable percentage of the Sabar population. Literacy only can enable them to claim their rights and entitlements. We want the new Sabar generation to live up to the expectations of the rest of society. This is the only way to end the discrimination they still face. All hindrances to Sabar education prevail in the Sabar Community will be removed through this hostel. These 75 Sabar girls being 1st generation learners will be the role models from the Sabar Community and after the completion of their school, we are sure this will make a vibrate in this De-notified, ignorant Sabar community.
