SABRI KITCHEN

759 families of the Musahar society residing in 25 forest villages of district Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh, India were financially affected in LockDown. 465 children from 0 to 5 years of these families are affected by extreme malnutrition. Because their parents go from home to work in the morning and come back in the evening, due to which children are not able to get food when they feel hungry. Due to which hunger keeps eating the body of children and children become malnourished. According to the survey in 2019, 10 per cent of the children of Musahar society were found to be saviour malnourished and 4 per cent of the children were moderately malnourished. Thus, a total of 14 per cent of the children were found to be malnourished. Due to these reasons, cases of child deaths are more in the Musahar society than in other societies.

It is necessary that community participation in the Musahar community of 10 villages should be conducted in a community kitchen called “Sabri kitchen” in which dry grains are roasted and provided to children when they experience hunger, especially in the noon or afternoon. at a later time. Any woman or man present in the village can do this work. For this work, with the help of dry grains like gram, rice, peas, chuda, lai, etc., the community will get a big help in the direction of nutrition of children. Depending on the experiences, this process may also be possible in the future with local help. Based on an estimate, about 36000 rupees would be required for a year in a village. About 360000 rupees will be required for 10 villages.    

We want to change upto 5% of child malnutrition from 24% currently in the Musahar community.
