In India every single minute 1 person gets injured in a road accident which contributes 10%- 30% of hospital registrations. Dislocation, fractures, sprains are the most common injuries linked with road accidents.

Lack of treatment of fractures in pre-hospital care causes injury to accompany neurovascular structures, muscle spasms and pain which could significantly lead to lifelong disability or death.

The highway Police department of Maharashtra has launched the ‘Highway Mrityunjay Doot’ scheme to ensure that the injured are transported to the hospital in a timely manner and receive proper treatment.

In the Highway Mrityunjay Doot scheme, the employees working in petrol pumps, local hotels as well as people from nearby villages on highways are identified and given first-aid training and are provided with a first-aid kit and a stretcher and these volunteers are called ‘Mrityunjay Devdoot’.
