School Chale Hum

About 90% of the tribal population in Deharang was illiterate and did not have access to basic medical facilities. Most of the people were suffering from scabies due to lack of proper medical care and awareness about the disease. The community was economically as well as socially backward when the founders of the organization first set up their operation. The tribal families lived hand to mouth and could not afford to send their children to schools. They would send their children for work instead to earn a livelihood in order to feed the family.

The organization began their work in and around Deharang by organizing free weekly medical health camps for the tribal population to address their medical issues. Gradually, they also started helping the economically backward students whose parents could not send their children to schools by providing them lodging & boarding facilities to enable them to study. They started a goshala to provide milk & milk products to the hostel students. The surplus is sold to support the organization's activities. They have also started tailoring classes for women in order to provide them extra livelihood opportunities. The organization gives one tailoring machine to each woman at the end of the classes.

Due to the continuous efforts, the tribal population is now scabies free. The organization began by providing hostel facilities to 5-6 students in the beginning & now houses 17 students in 2018-19. The organization has been successful in creating awareness & importance of education among the community. As a result, the rate of enrollment in schools has increased. The tailoring classes have provided additional income to the families. Also, the students have managed to change the outlook of the community towards education & its ability to empower.
