School construction at Tamenglong, Manipur

School POU SHANKAR KANE VIDYALAYA, Hougailong, Dist. Tamenglong is currently having a temporary construction on the hills and the region is a soft target of earthquakes.

This has made the school building vulnerable to the stroke of a natural calamity. The risk of an unpredictable earthquake can damage the structure further and unfortunate accidents may occur.

There is no proper schooling facility in the radius of 3 km of our existing school to impart education to the school. Students have to walk distances to go to school.

Influences of anti-social activities and addictions have started ruining the youth of the community and around. Uneducated youth fall prey to anti-social activities and addictions. The fear of life threat is another outcome of these activities.

PSVP Tamenglong school has a full-time staff of 9 consisting of teachers, principal, administrator, security. PSVP has also deployed a volunteer from Maharashtra. This volunteer is full time deputed locally in school to oversee the day to day activities and plan/ monitor/ execute the various initiatives.

The school is at Tamenglong which itself is a district headquarter. It is known as ‘Pou Shankar Kane Vidyalaya’.

This school is in operation from 2009. Currently, there are 90 students studying from KG to 7th std classes. There is a total of 9 school staff including the principal. The school building is made up of the wooden structure and consists of 8 rooms. As of now, there is no hostel facility for school students. Electricity is available in school. This school is based in ‘Rongmai Naga Wasti’.

The permanent structure of steel can reduce the risk of fall-down of the infrastructure of the school. The proposed building is earthquake resistant structure and can behold the strokes better than the existing school building. A safe and secure schooling premise will be a promising and assured infrastructure for students and the staff which will be built trust and goodwill in the minds of the community.

The school is already imparting good education to the children in the village. With improved infrastructure, students will receive quality education in their close vicinity. This will also bring opportunities to students who go distances walking to far away schools. The students will have in-house resources for academics, technical and technological knowledge, sports, and extra-curricular activities.

With proper education, students will be prepared with life skills and expertise to make rational decisions for themselves and the betterment of their community. They will be aware of the ill effects of addictions and also help others in rehabilitation. The thought of Mother Nation will always motivate them to serve the country and not pick arms against the country.
