Discontinuation of Learning due to Schools being closed

With schools still shut due to Covid-19 pandemic, the students across the country are facing huge challenges in continuing their academic pursuits. While many urban private schools have been able to quickly move to online the rural kids especially those enrolled in government schools are getting completely left out from the process of learning. With less than 15% of them having access to smart phones or computing devices the only way to support these students is through mechanisms that can ensure delivery of printed learning materials directly to the children at their homes.

Door to door delivery of Learning Kits

Sikshana being rural focused for the last decade has been through its staff and help from government school teachers and volunteers distributing practice workbooks for foundational Math and English to the children by visiting the children's homes in the villages across all the districts in Karnataka and in current area of operations in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. There is also a personal hygiene component given in the form of a masks and soaps to each of the student. At the time of distributing these kits our staff who have been trained by Narayana Hrudayalaya are conducting covid-19 safety sessions for the family.

Each kit consists of 3 practice books for Math, 3 practice books for English, Pencils and Erasers, 2 Masks and soap. All these cost Rs. 150/- per kit and will be distributed by Sikshana Mentors to the children at their homes with their parents present along with a presentation on covid safety.

From July to September:

No. of Children who received the kits - 152,505

No. of Workbooks distributed - 305,900

For October and November:

We want to distribute learning kits to 50,000 students.
