In India especially in the state of Madhya Pradesh, almost 2.5 % of the total number of children are differently-abled. Because of illiteracy, myths and lack of awareness, these children are mostly neglected and abused. Most of such children are kept isolated in homes and are constantly looked down upon. They do not get an equal opportunity to education and vocational training. Many of them are abandoned on streets even by their parents, left to fend for themselves or on the mercy of society or government. There are not many government or privately run places where they can receive proper education, training, and care.
Having been through a similar experience, and having seen the conditions of such children in government run mercy homes in Gwalior, we established Snehalaya to care for, to feed, to educate, and to train such children so that they can live a life with love and dignity and become independent as much possible.

Girls, especially those living in villages are not sent for education and lead a life of oppression. We started a mainstream school to educate them, to empower them, so that they can lead the life of their own choice and make it better not only for themselves, but also for their whole family and future generations.
Our "Snehalaya - The Home with love" in Gwalior, (managed and run by Gwalior Hospital & Education Charitable Trust), established in 2004, is a care home for the disabled, destitute, orphan children and homeless women, where they live together as a family with love and dignity. At present, there are 65 residents and we are hoping to be able to accommodate 200 in the near future. With a special needs school and vocational training facilities, we aim to make them independent, enabling them to lead their life with dignity and self esteem.
There is also a mainstream school within campus to educate poor children, primarily the dropout girls from villages. Eligible Girls are provided everything for free, and also an incentive of Rs. 10 per day for attending school, as a small help to them
At present, 350 such children are being educated there and we aim to graduate to 1000 soon.
We also work in surrounding villages, providing education, health care, hygiene, sanitation, safe drinking water, vaccination, nutrition of child and mother, SHGs, self employment, income generation etc. as well as for animal care with a Gaushala in our Snehalaya. Also for cutting down on environment pollution with alternative energy by solar lights, plantation, organic farming and much more....
With your help, we can achieve it all.
100% of the funds received (in fact more than 100%) are used to provide for these children only. Any help or support in kind or cash, howsoever small, is very much appreciated. It makes more than 100% impact as hundreds of our volunteers, trustees and advisors provide their time, skills as well money without any costs to charity.
We welcome volunteers, including students and trainees, from all walks of life for any duration as per their convenience to work with us from their own place or on floor in our Snehalaya at Gwalior, Central India.
