Story

Mission

Across many urban slums in Delhi, young girls complete their senior secondary education with aspirations to study further, but are forced to pause their dreams due to financial constraints. Limited access to higher education, responsibilities at home, and the absence of local opportunities often push them into a cycle where their potential remains unrealised.

At the same time, in their communities, many students struggle with early school dropouts and no guidance on education. This disproportionately affects young children who need nurturing, engaging, and consistent classroom environments during their early years.

The Jagriti Fellowship was created at the intersection of these two realities.

About the Jagriti Fellowship

The Jagriti Fellowship is a two-year, community-rooted fellowship programme designed for young women who have completed their senior secondary education but are unable to pursue higher studies due to financial challenges. The fellowship was co-created in partnership with Teach For India, bringing together deep classroom experience and a strong focus on leadership and values.

This training prepares fellows not just to support learning, but to grow as reflective practitioners and community leaders.

Learning, Leading, and Giving Back Within Their Own Communities

After training, Jagriti Fellows are embedded within their own communities. The fellowship enables young women from urban slums to continue their education while working. Fellows receive a monthly stipend, allowing them to sustain themselves, support their families, and invest in their future without abandoning their aspirations.

Through this journey, fellows develop:

  • Confidence and leadership
  • Agency and decision-making skills
  • Practical classroom and communication abilities
  • Pathways toward long-term self-reliance and meaningful careers

Why Sponsor a Jagriti Fellow

When you sponsor a Jagriti Fellow, you are not just supporting one individual. You are strengthening an entire learning ecosystem.

Your contribution helps:

  • A young woman continues her education and builds a future of dignity and independence
  • Community education centers receive much-needed human support
  • 30-40 young children in one center experience better learning outcomes at a foundational stage

One Jagriti Fellow impacts more than 100 students in a year.

This National Girl Child Day, your support can move beyond symbolic celebration and create lasting, on-ground change.

Your Support Makes This Possible

Funds raised through this campaign will be used for:

  • Fellow stipends and field support
  • Training and mentoring
  • Teaching learning resources

By sponsoring a Jagriti Fellow, you invest in education, leadership, and community-led change, ensuring that girls who once needed support can now become the support system for many others.
