Provide a year of education to a tribal girl in Odisha

Only 1 in 100 girls from rural Indian regions manage to complete their education once enrolled into a school. Rural regions of Odisha, such as Gajapati, are mostly tribal populations with significantly low female literacy rates.

Adding to the prevailing gender disparity, the geography of both districts have some of the most inaccessible mountainous terrains of Odisha. Hence, schools are either not set up here or are situated so far away that it is extremely difficult for young girls to travel the distances every day.

We work with local non-governmental organisations to deliver a teaching methodology that is creative, interactive and effective. For this, we train teachers in various subjects and provide correct learning material. We are running 50 education centres in Gajapati and 30 centres in Mayurbhanj for out of school girls aged 6-14.

We monitor the functioning of our centres and also evaluate the performance of the students regularly before we send them to mainstream schools. We encourage girls who want to continue their education to take the State Board Examination for grade 5. We also work closely with the community to ensure that they participate in our efforts by sending their girls to school.

Our aim is to help 2,000 girls in tribal communities living within Odisha. The majority of female students we work with have successfully enrolled into a mainstream school; a trend we would like to continue with the help of just Rs. 2,500 from you.
