Story
Impact

Devi belongs to Poonthalir, a village near Thiruvannamalai. **Her parents could not take care of her due to financial difficulties. Her grandmother brought her to Chennai when she was in the 5th grade at school.** She stayed with her maternal grandmother and uncle. She completed her education amidst constant tension over the issue of supporting her, but her grandmother stood by her. **Devi was a bright student and was awarded scholarships. These scholarships and her grandmother's pension helped in covering the costs for her education.** In her final year at college, Devi heard about ANEW through a friend's mother. She approached the center for training. **ANEW's orientation program was the turning point for the shy, introvert Devi. With the advise given, she made a conscious effort to be active in college.** She participated in the various events conducted by them. **She pursued the weekend web-designing program at ANEW. In 6 months, she transformed herself significantly. So much so, that her teachers observed the change and made her the class representative.** On course completion, Devi attended a walk-in interview with L&T - Infotech. She was chosen for her confidence, attitude and her ANEW web designing project. **She attended L&T's 3-month training program at their Bombay office. She soon got placed at their Chennai office with a starting salary of Rs 16,000.** ANEW's hand holding through the initial months of work, further helped her settle in well at work. **Within 2 years of her career, Devi's dream of traveling abroad was fulfilled, as she was sent on work to South Africa!** Today, Devi is a successful working woman. Devi even volunteers as a 'buddy' to her juniors at ANEW in her spare time. She credits her grandmother and ANEW for molding her into the confident person she is today. She is grateful for the support they gave her in her hour of need. **You can also change the lives of needy children like Devi. You can donate so that they can acquire skills that can help them with opportunities to break the cycle of poverty. You can give with confidence because every program listed is [GIVEASSURED](https://www.giveindia.org/giveassured).**
