Sponsor Living Expenses for Single Women

The women in the age group of 18-35 years are living single due to destitute, divorced, widowed, separated, unmarried, infected/affected with HIV/AIDS, survivors of violence against women (VAW) living single, and living separately with disabilities. These women lead their families by doing daily labor, wage workers, and street vendors, but they get limited daily income, and due to the nonavailability of work, they have no workdays in a month; as a result, they don’t have income those days; this will lead these families to severe poverty conditions. Hence, the young single women searching for alternative income sources and trapped by the middlemen to use them as sex workers while they are involved in sex work, infected with HIV/AIDS, and facing many other health issues; they lose their dignity in the society, they can’t do further for labor work to generate income for their family. 

Mahila Margadarshi conducted a study with these families about their income sources and wellbeing; we identified that most of these women have various skills in sewing, food preparation, little shops, skilled in developing backyard poultry, and trading with goat/sheep lambs. But, due to a lack of financial feasibility, these women are working as unskilled labor and getting insufficient income to manage their families. Due to the situation, the family members face no food days and become malnourished. This will affect the lives of these families.

The proposed project ‘Living Expenses for a Single Women Family’ addresses the poverty issue among 100 single women families and provide financial assistance to the women according to their skill to earn money at their home, provide financial aid to developing backyard poultry, purchase goat/sheep lambs for rearing, buy a sewing machine for income generation, start a little shop at home to lead by their parents. 

The financial aid to these single women will bring them out of the severe poverty conditions and improve their dignity in society; Mahila Margadarshi will take responsibility for protecting the young single women from the middlemen and take the lead role in accessing the benefits of all Government Schemes.

The project will address the issues of poverty and dignity, the project beneficiaries will improve their family income which will lead to zero hunger days in a month, and the young single women will start their enterprise at home to earn income and prevent the pressure from the middlemen in the society; as a result, they are not infected with HIV/AIDs and reduce the rate HIV infections, the survivors of Violence Against Women will stand firm for accessing justice.
