Sponsorship for teachers' salaries

Well trained special educators are necessary to train children /persons with disability. They are the key drivers for the success of our school. Special educators who strive harder for the improvement of special children should get a respectable salary. In order to attract and retain good teachers, we need to be able to offer teachers a secure salary. We don't have any government funding and depend on donors for financial support. We face many difficulties in attracting good teachers because of our pay scale. As we are running our center in a rented building, we also have to pay the rent, electricity bill and maintenance charges for the building. Hence, we are unable to pay our teachers well.

Om Muruga Special School & Vocational Training center was started in the year of 2010 with 11 children . This is the first vocational training center in North Madras. At present we have 40 (Boys & Girls) special children in our center and 5 special educators . Our vision & mission is to train children with disabilities in all aspects of life so that they can live a near normal life independently. We are focused on improving their quality of life by training them in daily living skills like (brushing, toilet training, dressing), fine and gross motor skills, visual skills and social interaction. We give much attention to their employability. We provide vocational training in garland making, jewelry making, tailoring, aari and zardosi work , agarbathi, papad, idlypodi & phenoyl making to children. So far, we had placed nearly 10 children in different small industries and some of them have started their own small business at home. We had also mainstreamed 5 children in the last 7 years.

We shall be able to acquire excellent quality of teachers which in turn would result in improvement of differently abled children's life.

Attracting new professionals with good salaries will help us in increasing our student intake for the upcoming year so that many children with disabilities, who are still sitting at home can also experience the joy of education, can be trained and can do well in their life like us. 40 special children are our main beneficiaries .
