The commonest disease in children is congenital heart disease. In India, 1 in every 100 children is born with this condition. Most of the children are left untreated due to the economic cause. Lack of education and malnutrition are the other causes. 200000 children require surgeries in India and presently in Maharastra, 25000 children remain untreated.
Sri Sathya Sai Health and EducationTrust have started a free of cost child heartcare center at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. under the name Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Centre for Child Heart Care and Training in Pediatric Cardiac Skills. The Trust is building a chain of hospitals for this very purpose; the first being at Raipur, Chattisgarh( covering more than 5000 heart surgeries past 6 years), the second being at Palwal, Haryana, covering more than 1000 surgeries.
It is amongst India's largest, non-sectarian charitable trusts, seeking to bring about the enduring impact in the quality of the lives of the underprivileged populations by providing free of cost healthcare with the special focus on curative tertiary care for congenital heart diseases in children and primary healthcare support services for maternal and child health.
