The Institute of Applied Dermatology (IAD) in Kasaragod, Kerala, is today the world’s foremost Lymphoedema and integrative medicine day-care centre acknowledged internationally. It started in 1999 as a not-for-profit venture to treat skin &amp; Filarial diseases effectively.In 2004, the Institute of Applied Dermatology successfully developed an integrated medicine protocol to treat Lymphatic Filariasis/Filarial Lymphedema patients. Treatment consists of compression bandaging, herbal-based treatments of   Ayurveda, and yoga exercises. Having pioneered a unique integrative management protocolfor Lymphatic Filariasis, IAD has treated over 4000 cases from 24 Indian states and 12 countries worldwide.Presently, IAD is working on a project, ‘Scaling Life’ aimed at expanding integrated medicine in India through a public-private model of care. With the collaboration of local state governments and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), IAD has established four Filariasis care units (known in technically as LFMMDP units) inside the facilities of Government Ayurveda colleges in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to provide free treatment for Filariasis patients.
