Story

Pigs are often seen as unhygienic animals found in urban swamps and are conveniently ignored by society at large. However, beyond what people see exist massive pig-rearing businesses, which subject these animals to unimaginable and illegal abuse. Pigs have just as much emotion as any other animal and feel just as much pain yet their cries for help have gone unheard for decades. Despite there being laws against the torture of pigs, there are instances where these laws against cruelty are ignored, leaving lakhs of pigs in pain and suffering throughout their lives. Even moments before their painful deaths, they are fed offals of other pigs slaughtered before them.

IAF India Animal Foundation along with other NGOs, have been on a mission to save pigs from hellish living conditions and ease their suffering. These NGOs have been rescuing pigs from grave abuse and providing safe shelter, food, and medical care to ill and injured pigs. Most importantly, these NGOs have been working towards more humane public policies and ensuring enforcement of existing prevention of cruelty laws to help improve conditions for these animals.

Your donation can ease their pain

“These pigs are subjected to unimaginable cruelty. They are kept in confined spaces. They are so distressed that they start chewing iron pens. Their mouths start bleeding. Their teeth are cut off with nail cutters. Hot bands are applied on their tails so the tail tips fall off” says Sunayana Sibal from People For Animals Uttarakhand.

The worst atrocities are inflicted on pigs during the process of transportation. Sunayana explains, “Pigs are transported in large numbers by rail or road in stifling conditions. All through this journey they are neither given water nor food. The jaws of boars are locked with metallic chains to retain them. This process is carried out in such a horrifying manner that a large number of pigs die by the time they reach the destination”.

Urgent need to end abuse

IAF is fighting to give these animals a good life, this is dependent on public support to meet the expenses on food, transport, shelter, medication, policy advocacy and enforcement for these animals.

"I humbly request each one to come forward and please donate so we can give these pigs a life away from abuse and suffering," says Sunayna.

India Animal Fund (IAF), along with other NGOs, have resolved to ease the pain of pigs and other farmed animals. They provide safe shelter, food and medical care to ill and injured farmed animals rescued from life-threatening conditions. Besides these, the NGOs are also actively involved in capacity building and advocacy.
