Imagine a childhood with no storybooks, no playground, lack of safety and sanitation?

The Katkatha studio is located in Hari Nagar Ext. in Badarpur. The Jaitpur neighborhood is a vastly changing congested urban village and the children come from households where there is hardly any structure. They belong to chaotic family structures where adequate care and affection are missing. These children have internalized the chaos that exists in their external worlds, and have consequently developed intense feelings of aggression and apathy in their relationships with others. They also have internalized strong feelings of inadequacy and have a lack of healthy intimacy in their lives. They do not have any safe spaces where they could go and channel their difficult emotions.

Most of them just go to school and then tuition 6 days a week till 7.00 pm every day. Their parents can barely afford any extracurricular activities on top of them receiving basic education. Some can't even afford that. Hobbies, reading, playing, and learning skills are something most only imagine.

Sunday Club provides the children of the neighborhood with a safe space where they can read, dance, play, do theater, and make puppets for 2 hours every Sunday. Sunday Club is a space where children be what they need to be. Imaginative, creative, and free. It's a haven for these children where we provide them with books, arts and crafts lessons, dance lessons, and group therapy sessions.

Through this, we're hoping to bridge the strengthening gap between children and their overall well-being.

We wish to promote the overall well-being of children and create a safe space where they feel empowered enough to express themselves. Arts practices, like drama, painting, storytelling, puppetry, etc., have been proven to spread emotional awareness and develop creative self-expression which is what we are aiming for.
