Support 3000 students from Darjeeling and Kalimpong access higher education or careers

Yash Rai and Rishikesh Sharma are both third-year students from Bijanbari Degree College, in the largest block of the Darjeeling District. Yash and Rishi are two of many young students from the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong with potential but lack guidance and role models in accessing higher education 

In 2023, with support from the Eastern Himalayan Foundation (EHF), Yash was selected as a Fellow with Tech4Good Labs in Kochi and Rishi for the prestigious Teach for India Fellowship in Kolkata (letters attached above with the photos). 

In the coming year, EHF aims to support 3000 additional students in the districts of Kalimpong and Darjeeling to be career ready at a cost of INR 500 per student.

note: EHF was incepted by the Azim Premji Foundation and is incubated by NSRCEL, IIM Bangalore to expand our work in the mountainous regions of Darjeeling and West Bengal. The founder, Mashqura Fareedi is from Darjeeling with 2 decades of experience in the social sector with organisations like DLR Prerna, Kalpavriksh Environment Action Group, Association for Democratic Reforms, and Azim Premji Foundation.
