Support a Cancer Care Volunteer

"My father died in 2020 after battling Cancer for an extended period of time. Since he was the sole bread winner in the family, after his death, my mother worked as a house help to make ends meet. And I ended up giving up school due to lack of funds. However, I didn’t give up. I prayed to Allah for support and strength. 

Fortunately for me, I met Dr Saima Furqan, Founder of Pal Care Foundation whose organisation works actively to support Cancer patients and their families palliative care in Jammu and Kashmir. She came as a ray of hope for me and my family when she selected me to be part of their project Aashna. I trained to become a cancer care champion. The monthly compensation I receive enables me to continue my education and support my family. More importantly, the project has provided me a purpose in life by empowering me to help those in their greatest time of need. I watch patients struggle due to lack of basic knowledge and resources, much as I did when my father was diagnosed with Cancer. I am now providing psycho-social as well as peer support to over 180 cancer patients and their families as they fight the deadly disease.'' - Aisha, Cancer Care Champion.

The helplessness that Aisha felt is not uncommon among low-income families of cancer patients. There are many who face the same situation when they not only lose their loved ones to cancer but also end up falling under emotional, societal and financial burden. Pal Care Foundation has ensured that cancer patients and their families don’t meet this fate. We have been a beacon of light for many cancer patients since its inception. We believe that they deserve to live the last stages of their lives with the utmost dignity.
