Sevalaya’s Relief & Response initiative aims to meet the immediate needs of disaster affected people in the areas of emergency shelter, sanitation & hygiene, livelihood & food security, health care. Sevalaya has responded promptly and extended immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation support to affected communities in the wake of the following disasters and crisis situations: Our response Tsunami (2004), Chennai floods (2015), Kerala floods (2018), Cyclone Gaja (2018), Cyclone Nivar & Burevi (2020), COVID-19 response.
Cyclone Michaung has caused widespread devastation, displacing families and disrupting normal life in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur districts. Many households are grappling with the loss of their homes, livelihoods, and access to basic necessities, including food.
1. Objective:
The primary objective of this proposal is to provide Immediate and sustained relief to the communities affected by Cyclone Michaung in Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Thiruvallur districts.
2. Scope of Intervention:
This project aims to deliver
A. Immediate relief by ensuring distribution of dry ration, packed meals and essential kit supplies to the affected population in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur districts, targeting the most vulnerable households, including those with elderly members, children, and pregnant women.
B. Restoring Sevalaya’s elderly home, children home and Gaushala shed in Sevalaya’s Kasuva campus in Thiruvallur. Current residents 75 elders, 165 childrens and 105 cows.
3. Distribution Centers: Strategically located in the affected areas, ensuring accessibility for all communities. Collaborate with local authorities to identify suitable sites for effective distribution
4. Volunteer Engagement: corporate volunteers, volunteers from local communities to assist in the distribution process, fostering a sense of community involvement and ownership.
5. Monitoring and Reporting: Regular feedback mechanisms will be established (location, no of beneficiaries, total count)
6. Budget:
1. Dry ration kit: Rs. 1200 / head for 1500 beneficiaries including packaging & distribution
2. Packed meals: Rs.130 / head for 1500 beneficiaries (3 times meals/day) including packaging & distribution.
3. Essential kit: Rs. 1500 / head for 1500 beneficiaries including packaging & distribution.
4. Restoration of Sevalaya’s children and elderly home.
A. Rs. 5,00,000/- to increase the ground level for boys home.
B. Rs. 5,00,000/- to increase the ground level for girls home.
C. Rs. 10,00,000/- for ceiling – roof water proofing, internal and external wall water proofing and other minor repair works at elderly home.
5. Restoration of Sevalaya’s Gaushala shed:
A. Construct MS roof truss shed (3840 sq.ft) – Rs. 26,88,614/-
B. Civil work (3840 sq.ft) – Rs. 7,86,432/-
C. Compound wall (5'ht 140 rft) – Rs. 80,640/-
D. Paver block (5864 sq.ft) – Rs. 9,00,710/-
E. Storage yard (400 sq.ft) – Rs. 2,09,920/-
Sevalaya team will ensure coordination with the stakeholders and ensure (A) Distribution of dry ration, packed meals and essential kits to the affected community in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur; (B) Restoration work in Sevalaya’s Kasuva campus in Thiruvallur.
