Empower Tribal Girls Through Education and Mentorship
https://youtu.be/U1NwGqzKkN4?si=bMqZDvub02uZhWli
Dear Give India Community,
In 2007-08, our team at Kalamandir recognized a distressing trend among tribal girls in villages around Jamshedpur. Despite receiving free education up to the School Final level, these girls often faced grim futures— early-age marriage, elopement, or even trafficking in cities. Financial constraints left their dreams of higher education shattered, as their parents struggled to afford even the most basic necessities like books, tuition fees, and transportation to colleges.
Driven by a deep desire for change, we embarked on a mission to support these girls. Initially, we aided just 2 to 3 girls, providing them with college education support and partial employment opportunities. The outcomes surpassed our expectations—these girls not only completed their education but also evaded early marriages. Two of them even went on to pursue B.Ed and Postgraduate courses, proving the transformative power of education.
In 2012, we formalized our efforts into a program named "Medhavini," meaning talented girls. Partnering with Tata Steel Downstream Products Limited (TSDPL) in 2014, we strengthened our resolve to empower tribal girls. Medhavini aims to instil in these girls the belief that equal opportunities can lead to extraordinary achievements, breaking the cycle of poverty and paving the way for a brighter future.
Our program provides comprehensive support, covering stationery, uniforms, examination fees, and quality teaching every Sunday. We work closely with parents who pledge to postpone their daughters' marriages until they reach legal adulthood. Through holistic education and personality development sessions on weekends, we nurture these girls into confident changemakers.
Since its inception, Medhavini has impacted the lives of 464 girls, with 23 successfully establishing their careers, 26 pursuing Master’s degrees, and 101 gainfully employed. But our journey is far from over. We invite philanthropists to join us in empowering one or more underprivileged tribal girls from Dumaria, East Singhbhum, to complete their graduation. Your contribution of INR 17,500 per girl per year can make a world of difference.
Moreover, you can directly track the progress of the girls every Sunday through mentoring or calls. Additionally, your donation qualifies for income tax rebate under section 80G upon submission of necessary KYC documents.
Let's unite to create a brighter, more equitable future for these deserving tribal girls. Together, we can make dreams a reality.
